file not saved to disk when video and audio sources set then clicking play before setting filename

If I set the video and audio sources, then click play, then setup saving to disk, no file is saved to disk.

If I set up saving to disk first, then the file is created.

Once you click play, you cannot dynamically set files for your feeds to be recorded. You have to press Stop and Play again so as your changes will be taken into account. In fact it's quite tricky (but not impossible) to deal with dynamic Gstreamer pipeline updates. I hope I could implement that behavior soon.

That might not be necessary if it works when you press stop then play. Without knowing further details, I would tend to prefer the simpler solution. Maybe you could restart the video feed when a disk target gets added? Not sure if that causes issues.

I tested your method. Pressing stop then play works for me. Also since we'll be using configuration loading, we probably don't need to worry about this.
