confusion on proper SonoBus DIRECT CONNECTIONs on same PC
the instructions say to use the 'OTHER' SonoBus advertised IP ADDRESS/port - to be able direct connect to it...
i must still be doing something wrong, since it is not working as shown below..the VU meter/audio is not passing to the 2nd instance of SonoBus VST inside the 2nd VST HOST
I actually don't recommend using the DIRECT page at all for making connections, and I may actually remove it from the application to prevent confusion. All audio is peer->peer and when you use the Group technique, it is smart enough to recognize when two peers are on the same local network. Just use the Group connect and put in the same group name.
I actually find it useful to have the option of direct connection - when using it for customized setups with a 3rd-party mixing device. I'd prefer it not going away, if it can be made to work reliably.
I've found other (related?) issues with direct connection:
-
the connection status: when the connection is made, the "connector" (? the one initializing connection) does not indicate that the connection is running (the top button still reads "Connect...")
-
more importantly, when the "connector" stops, the "connectee" (the one receiving the connection) does not remove the incoming connection's "status/level bar"
-
restarting direct connection doesn't seem to be possible, after closing the "connector" - subsequent attempts to connect fail
-
in VST mode, it doesn't seem to be possible to set receiving UDP port
