Do not keep unmodified game configs

Open Jonathing opened this issue 8 months ago • 2 comments

System Information

  • SteamTinkerLaunch version: git master
  • Distribution: Nobara 42 (KDE Plasma)

Feature Description

SteamTinkerLaunch has a default config that is used to create the configs for new games when they are launched for the first time. My issue is that since I play many different games, I end up having a lot of game config files even though they are identical to the default config. It makes it hard to manually edit the config files for the games I actually have meaningful edits for in STL.

My feature request would be for STL to remove any config files that do not have any modifications from the default config. I'm not sure how feasible this is considering the absolute size of this project, but I figured it might be worth making the feature request anyways.

If I am understanding properly, you essentially don't want game configs created when a game is launched with SteamTinkerLaunch unless it is modified. I don't think this is good or wanted behaviour from any software. At least, that's not behaviour that I would personally want.

If I launch any game with an application like SteamTinkerLaunch I'd expect it to create some kind of configuration (for example, I'd expect an emulator to always create an INI for a game launched with it even if I didn't tinker with it).

I'm open to hearing if I'm missing a broader use-case though.

It makes it hard to manually edit the config files for the games I actually have meaningful edits for in STL.

If you're manually editing configs, wouldn't you know the games you're going to modify the configuration for? I'm not sure I understand the use-case.

Hey man, sorry I haven't revisited this in a while, I've been totally swamped. Thinking of a way to articulate what it is I actually want in a way that makes sense. Thanks again for all the work you do for this project.
