Updates terminology and explanation
Currently there are:
- Required Updates: These updates are mandatory and will be selected automatically.
- Security Updates: These updates are strongly recommended to support safe usage of your device.
- Other Updates: These updates may introduce new software versions and bug-fixes.
I like this distinction a lot but have two minor suggestions:
-
Would it make sense to change the terminology of the first one into "Core" or "System" Updates? This would more clearly indicate the type of the update and would provide more specific information than just calling it "required"; and the text below already mentions "mandatory" so "required" would be redundant.
-
The "Required Updates" section is currently the only one without providing an explanation (like the other two) other than that these updates are mandatory. It would be great to add one here as well.
They're not the complete core of the system so that makes very little sense. They provide the absolute basics up to and include the shell, systemd, etc. But not the complete core. They're mandatory updates. What explanation beyond that does it need.. ?

I just think whenever something is mandatory it is good to provide an explanation for it to avoid creating an impression that something is "forced" upon the end user. Adding a line that these are absolute basics for the operating system to function and hence are mandatory would provide such an explanation.

Then a "System Updates" category - my other suggestion - wouldn't make much sense either. There are also system components in the "Other Updates" category. I initially thought about this topographically, that is, from an inside core (mandatory) to an outside periphery (optional) whereas the categories rather suggest a declining degree of importance (required --> recommended --> other/optional).
