Rhythmbox hangs budgie, corrupts screen
Operating System: 2017.04.18.0
Budgie version: 10.3.1
The issue encountered
Rhythmbox will cause the entire UI to become unresponsive (to anything, so you can't interact with any other apps, although 50% of the time Raven still works). Then it will corrupt the dropdown menu display in the upper left. Eventually some sort of reset occurs and things get back to normal. But in the meantime, you can't do anything but move the mouse. The audio is still playing whatever the last song was that you tried to play.
Steps to reproduce the issue
Open the file explorer. Launch an audio file. Rhythmbox will come up automatically and start playing it. Now, while the audio is still playing, close Rhythmbox with the red "X". Do this again with another audio file. Keep repeating it. After several cycles, everything becomes unresponsive.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if this is due to memory corruption in Rhythmbox which occurs when a playback event is interrupted by suddenly closing the app, but this shouldn't be able to strangle the whole desktop.
I'm a bit late but I'm also experiencing this issue while just having my music play in the background. I think it's every 5-7 songs it freezes everything Budgie. Although I was thinking it could be a result of just a mix of a bad HDD and something else. This is present in the stable ISO, I haven't tested it on the unstable yet.
I guess this is a bug in the budgie-panel notification server.
To reproduce:
- Tried playing rhythmbox songs.
- Clicking next ( >> ) song button consecutively
- Desktop hangs for ~25 seconds ( d-bus timeout )
- After timeout desktop comes back to normal.
Workaround:
- Disable notification plugin from
Preferences
->Plugins
