Keyboard Shortcuts not launching to foreground (active window)
Operating System: e.g. Solus 1.2.1 Budgie version: i.e. Budgie 10.2.8
My keyboard launcher shortcut for Settings doesn't launch into the foreground. Instead, it opens in the background behind any other open applications I may have running at the time. My shortcut is set to Super+X
. The same thing happens for the Home folder shortcut, which I have set to Super+F
.
Still happening in 10.4 as of 2/3/18.... Very annoying.
Ok, I figured out that this problem seems to only apply to keyboard shortcut presets built into the Settings menu (gnome-control-center). So, for example, if you apply CTRL H to automatically bring up nautilus via the preset option in Settings, it opens behind existing windows. If you scroll to the bottom of the Keyboard option in Devices in Settings and hit the "+" button to create your own new shortcut for Nautilus, however, and apply CTRL H, it opens in the foreground. Why? No idea.
So, I just ignore the built-in presets for browser, terminal, nautilus, settings, etc in Settings and have just created new entries with keybindings for them all. This finally works around one of the most maddening bugs in daily use in Budgie.
That seems to be working for me as well, thanks for sharing this.
I believe this is something that occurs in more cases than shortcuts. It happens relatively regularly, for example, when I open a document in LibreWriter, I will get a notification in Plank that the new document has been opened, then I'll have to manually bring it to the front. I don't know if the underlying issue or if its something different.
For me it just happens with the "Home folder" shortcut. The browser shortcut work fine. One more thing to point out is, that pressing the shortcut for "Home folder" only starts one window. If pressed again, the first created window is getting focused but no second window is created.
