Improve keyboard navigation
It would be really nice if you could implement these:

Text field should be always focused even when you select applications using "down" and "up" keys so that you can always immediately type something different. This behaviour exists in the Advanced MATE Menu.

Using "left" key should make "down" and "up" keys to select categories and then using "right" should enable you to select applications again. For speed reasons, when you are selecting categories using keyboard, "Enter" should launch the first application of the category and text field should again be focused to enable you fast search in "All" applications.
What if someone wants to use the "left" and "right" arrow keys to correct a typo in their search query? Perhaps "left" and "right" should only work once you've pressed "down" at least once.
And the menu should lose its highlight once you start selecting objects as not to confuse the user where their actions are taking place, but perhaps focus could immediately return to the end of the search bar as soon as another character is pressed.
...and maybe the green highlights could be on the applications rather than the category:
