Include FAQ Addressing Solid and Privacy

Open Mitzi-Laszlo opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

There are a few questions on the forum and in response to talks on Solid around privacy and Solid and it would be helpful to have a summary of the essence of the questions in an FAQ along with an answer that addresses the key points.

For example, a rough draft could be:

"Are all Solid compatible Pod providers and apps privacy-preserving? When software services are Solid compatible it means that you as a user are free to switch to a similar alternative and bring your data along. For example, if you wanted to switch messaging app you could bring your contacts and chat history with you to the new messaging app.

This issue needs technical input to advance.

An attempt was made on https://github.com/solid/solidproject.org/pull/272 but there was a preference to carry out the conversation via an issue so this would be the best place to continue that conversation.

Do you think the question "Who is responsible for data privacy in Solid" would be a fitting question to frame what prompted the forum posts ? Then we could mention the data/app split, talk about the responsibility of the Pod provider, and about the possibility to pick a Pod provider that you think is secure, and to change Pod providers if you want.
