Plants per plot metadata upload + "net plot" or "expected max number harvested" meta data field needed
Cassavabase has a metadata field called "plants per plot" which can represent the number of stands planted per plot. However, that field is mostly if not entirely empty across breeding programs. I have been told that the ability to upload this information in bulk is needed.
In addition: many cassava trials are harvested using a "net plot", meaning that they harvest only the interior of a plot. We need a metadata field that can tell a data-user something like the "max number of plants expected to be harvested". This way we can track (1) how many plants were planted, (2) how many were harvested maximum, (3) the number of stands actually harvested.
This is critical for correctly calculating cassava yields in tons per hectare. We need to know the harvested area, which is not necessarily the same as the area of the entire plot. Hope that makes sense...
Prasad (@pvnsprasad ) may be able to clarify this issue as he and the other data managers / generators are responsible to upload the relevant metadata.
Should these be implemented as part of the trait ontology, as these are specific to a given plot?
Perhaps. "Expected Max NOHAV" would probably be the same for all plots in a given trial, but you never know.
