MacType crashes Explorer in Windows 11 Beta

Open zerorabb opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

Hi all,

I am running Windows 11 Insider Preview (Beta Channel) and MacType 2021.1 RC1 in service mode. When I open up File Explorer, however, it crashes without any interaction. I must add, I've never had this problem with Windows 10, only Windows 11. Naturally, I thought at first this was a bug with the beta version of Windows. However, while troubleshooting, I realised it does seem to be a MacType-related issue, because when I disable the service, File Explorer works perfectly fine without crashing. It's only when I reenable the service the issue comes back.

In my environment, I'm using both Build 22000, which is delivered on the beta channel, and Build 22468, which is delivered on the Dev channel, and I'm not having any issues with either. We recommend rebuilding your environment if possible and unloading unnecessary processes.

I have tried reinstalling Windows 11 and MacType, but the issue remained. Even updating to 22000 didn't help. But what DID help was unloading some unnecessary processes including some Runtime Broker ones and Windows Defender, and that did seem to do the trick. So thank you, @micachi !

Strangely the issue has returned now (no update or system changes), even after unloading unnecessary processes. Still doesn't crash when it's disabled, however.

I'm on 22000.282 and it doesn't crash. Didn't crash for me on Insiders either. It might be your setup :(
