Skrifa replacing FreeType?

Chromium-related projects are replacing FreeType with Skrifa, a new font library.
Maybe MacType could also have a try and benefit from it?
The point is whether it looks good, I don't trust Google's taste since skia looks awful.
But I don't think Chrome in Windows is using FreeType by any means. Skia in Windows is completely based on DirectWrite and that's why it is so ugly and so hard to tweak.

@ssssssbbb They claim they constantly check against FreeType to ensure they look the same.

@snowie2000 What I suggest is just to try replacing MacType’s bundled FreeType like they did. What browsers do internally and how MacType should fiddle with them (or just leave them be) can remain the same like before.
Also another food for thought, Firefox probably would follow too: https://github.com/Igalia/webengineshackfest/issues/46
Seems no benefit but security, which means nothing to personal user.
