Logo Proposal
Damn this is so simple and beautiful, love it. Not totally sure about the upper part though - the rectangle - maybe we can have a stack instead of a solid there to incorporate the download mechanics (since we are downloading videos chunk by chunk)?
Something like this what do you think? Rotated to match our perspective and color matched with our purple palette of course.
I like both ideas, but for what @snobu proposed I was thinking more of a chequered tail stile like this
What do you think of this?
I spent a few minutes on this. It's similar to several of the prior examples. I tried to match the corner radius used in the official logo. I also used ColorHexa Color Gradient with the original colors to generate the gradient for the bars. I'd be happy to share the SVG as well, but here's a PNG preview
I like it for v3.0, can we have just three lines at the top instead of 5? And a little bit more padding between the lines. @lukaarma What do you think? Should we adopt this as our official v3 logo? Which reminds me we should promote that branch as default.
@zhudock If you welcome a challenge how about replacing the three lines at the top with GitHub activity style pixles -
^ the example is a little too tall, we don't need all that height.
So it looks like the arrow at the bottom gets put together by gathering all those pixels together.

Out of all the logo proposed I prefer this last one, hands down.

I'm ok with that, the branch still needs more testing and love because it's still a has quite rough edges... It's a bit of a glass cannon: top notch performance but if something goes wrong it has a tough time recovering

I'll see what I can come up with in the next day or 2! Should I attempt to preserve the color gradient, or match color to the top triangle in the original icon? Also, should i attempt to match the GitHub activity graph padding between each square, or the much tighter padding from your sample image?
Here's my first logo, re-worked with 3 lines instead of 5, and also a very hastily done preview of implementing a GitHub activity graph style arrow and a pixel-style arrow. I plan to adjust number of lines, padding, colors, based on feedback.
