If there was an update to give, it would have been posted here.

Currently I have to create the asset or department as a user and then checkout to it.

I'll assume the update is, "not on the current roadmap."

Currently I have to create the asset or department as a user and then checkout to it.

I thought about doing that, I am up to over 12 printers for toner. That's a tiny number, but also right at the precipice of being a bear to manage.

No update to this recommendation? It's been a while.

I was going to make a PR for this down the road as I want this feature too but I believe there is an overhaul in the works for consumables/components/accessories to be more on par with assets/models.

Would you mind giving me some insight into what you did to get this to work in your PR? I'm looking at doing this myself.

+1 for this being implemented.

We would like to issue Consumables & Accessories to Assets.

We're an education establishment, so there is a large amount of equipment that is assigned to Locations instead of people, and we want to track how many keyboards/mice are replaced / classroom

In addition printers are location based, so consumable tracking by asset would be very useful.
