Transfer Assets from one owner to another in bulk

Open leebaggaley opened this issue 6 years ago • 32 comments

Server (please complete the following information):

  • Snipe-IT Version - Version v4.5.0 - build 3701 (master)
  • OS: [e.g. Ubuntu, CentOS] - Ubuntu
  • Web Server: [e.g. Apache, IIS] - Apache2
  • PHP Version - 7.0.30-0ubuntu0.16.04.1

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Nope

Describe the solution you'd like Is there a way (that I haven't come across yet) to transfer all assets from one user to another user? This would be absolutely awesome. Im regularly transferring assets when people go on leave/sick and would be cool to do it in bulk. The assets in my environment dont have asset labels and would be transferred out in the field (someone goes on sick for example and all his kit is passed onto the replacement employee). It's a little time consuming to do this individually especially where the owner has 5+ assets

I'd be more than happy to put up a bounty for this a feature request

Describe alternatives you've considered Individually transferring assets

Additional context Add any other context or screenshots about the feature request here.

I think this would be a really cool feature to add 👍

Hi @snipe, I thought I would give a better case for my feature request as per the gitter comments. My company uses Snipe-IT to track not only IT related assets but also things like vehicles (vans), tooling, equipment & Mobile phones. When we lose a member of staff we would normally need to transfer all the assets to a "New" member of staff in bulk, at present we would need to either check all the items in one by one or if the staff member is a leaver we could use the delete employee an check in all assets feature. Once all the assets are checked in we would then proceed to check all these same assets back out to a new member of the team, as we are looking at things like vehicles and tooling etc we dont have the ability to use the bulk checkout option as this can sometimes be done remotely. To give you an idea, the vehicle/employee may have up to 15 assets assigned. We could really do with this feature as when a member of staff goes on sick or leave we need the ability to quickly transfer all their assets to someone else (even if its only for a few days and transfer them back). We have a system whereas if tooling or equipment is lost, stolen or broken we would expect the employee to be liable for the costs incurred, Snipe-IT is now our way of tracking this ownership and with the digital signatures its brilliant. I hope this makes sense and I would love to have this feature and im sure that a lot of other faithful followers/users of this amazing system would also benefit :)

@leebaggaley thanks for the additional use-case info!

Is this still relevant? We haven't heard from anyone in a bit. If so, please comment with any updates or additional detail. This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has not had recent activity. It will be closed if no further activity occurs. Don't take it personally, we just need to keep a handle on things. Thank you for your contributions!

Yep, I would really like this feature adding if possible (I know you guys have a lot on with the upgrade at the moment). Just the ability to transfer an asset from one user to another would be ideal and take away the check in/out. As in my thread, we would like to do this in bulk - as one employee leaves the new employee can be issued their assets in bulk :)

This issue has been automatically closed because it has not had recent activity. If you believe this is still an issue, please confirm that this issue is still happening in the most recent version of Snipe-IT and reply to this thread to re-open it.

This is a feature request - unless it has been implemented - it will always be relevant. Please disable Stale Bot for feature requests

Honestly don't know why this didn't gain more traction. This is a great tool/feature to have. For example, someone at our company lead the design team and had all of the equipment checked out to them. Now that they have moved to another position someone else is taking their role which means 40+ items are now being handed over. Checking in every item, then going back and checking out every item seems MORE THAN TEDIOUS.

chong-doh avatar Jan 12 '21 14:01 chong-doh

I would like to see that as a feature. I know we can reference the event logs to see which assets have been checked in, but no easy way to select them all and check them back out. the bulk checkout is handy, but that still required you to manually query every asset you are assigning to the new user. Definitely would use this feature a lot going forward. I would agree that the current options for this scenario are tedious.

This continues to be a relevant feature request and should be reopened.

PLEASE ADD THIS FEATURE!

Please do not yell.

Please do not yell.

Sorry, I was just overpowered by my want for this feature. Will keep that in mind for future posts.

Stalebot is not supposed to stale tickets that have been marked as feature requests. I don't know why it does that sometimes.

snipe avatar Apr 21 '22 20:04 snipe

This would be a great addition. This seems to need an additional feature to be not so overwhelming to the receiving user though. This being a single email for accepting bulk assets. In cases where someone may be transferring 15 tools that require signature on receipt, 15 emails is going to be, well, obnoxious. Not the worst, but not great.

would be great to have this feature!

Hi guys, we would really love such feature as well. Presuming that it is yet to be added if at all.

Thanks, BR

Please, Asset transfer is an essential feature to optimize Snipe-it

The workflow I'm envisioning for this would be from the user view page to start with. A new button in the right-side menu, "Transfer Items", which then brings you to a page where all assets, licenses, etc have checkboxes next to them, checked by default, but where you can uncheck certain ones you wouldn't want to transfer (and licenses that are not reassignable would not be able to be checked). Then a submit button that logs a checkin from the original user and a checkout to the newer user in one shot. Does that sound like a reasonable workflow? I'm sure we can improve it over time, but that's our current thinking on this feature.

snipe avatar Feb 09 '24 13:02 snipe

any update on this - can we achieve with an API maybe instead

amcelligott avatar Feb 21 '24 21:02 amcelligott

Thanks for the response, any update on this function?

LambertWangSH avatar Feb 29 '24 13:02 LambertWangSH

@snipe About the workflow : If we can add, a notification and request to accept or refuse the transfer from the recipient would be nice. And what about the assignment to a location? Could we also have a transfer button and the same notification/validation system? + Add to user permissions the people who have the right to manage transfers (accept/refuse/...). Adding this to the workflow would be ideal!
