Feature: Filter Custom fields in Custom asset reports
Version: 8.1.2
Currently, custom asset report filtering is limited to the default data fields. Please add custom fields as filterable/searchable options when generating custom asset reports.
Some companies have literally hundreds of custom fields. I'm not sure how we would would make that work in a practical sense without the form being 10 miles long, but we can kick it around a bit.
Well, for instance custom reports could be redesigned to not to show all the possible fields to filter, but instead to show a list of fields to be filtered where you can add yours to your report dynamically. Generally custom fields are already added there as an item to include in the report, so companies which have hundreds of custom fields already have a challenge (in Custom reports). Nicer would be to have a pick lists for these: Fields to include, Filters, Options
Since that report spans all assets - which often span multiple models and therefore multiple custom fields/fieldsets) that’s not really feasible.
would be a nice feature, maybe a UI like the one used in bulk checkout to search and add fieldsets to the report filters?

Forgive me if I am wrong, but right now there is no logic in custom report UI either. You can pick a category which excludes most of the models and still being able to pick a model which does not exist in the said category. So to me it sounds like doing it similarly with custom fields could be fine, without any logic. Just with little UI bonus - you don't see all the filters there, you need to add them by a button / from a list.
With the introduction of saved custom reports, this gets a little trickier than it seems, but we'll certainly consider it.
@snipe I want custom fields as filters in this form, no matter how long would it be. (Honestly, Custom fields are already listed on left side of 'Custom asset reports' page, so form wouldn't get any longer than it is already.)
'I'll try to explain why such filter is a great idea. In larger organizations you usually have more than one person who's responsible for assets, but there's no standard field where you can define responsible person (a.k.a. Asset manager). So we put this data in a separate custom field. Also, we have some other information that helps to filter our assets.
