[Feature Request]: Automatic Status Change to "Deployed" after Assignment

Open gokbuluterdogan opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Currently, when we assign an item that is in "In Stock" status to a user, the status does not automatically update to "Deployed." Instead, it remains as "In Stock - Deployed." This leads to confusion and additional manual steps, as we expect the status to reflect the item's deployment automatically after the assignment.

Describe the solution you'd like

We would like the system to automatically change the status to "Deployed" as soon as an item is assigned to a user. This would remove the need for manual status updates and better reflect the actual state of the item.

Describe alternatives you've considered

An alternative would be manually updating the status after each assignment, but this adds unnecessary steps and increases the likelihood of errors.

Additional context

This improvement would streamline the workflow and help avoid discrepancies between the inventory and the actual status of the assets being used by users.

As an additional request, we would like to ask for the following functionality:

When we check in an item after use, we would like the status to automatically change back to "In Stock." Currently, the system does not update the status, which requires manual intervention and could lead to tracking errors. This would complement the requested automatic status update to "Deployed" after assignment, making the overall process more efficient and accurate.

Thank you for considering this!

Imagine how nice it would be, if Snipe-IT indicated unaccepted assets in the Asset list, not only in the Unaccepted Assets report.

Would agree on this, if we checkout an item we would like that the status is Deployed. @snipe Would this not be an easy fix? At least that the status can be selected under bulk checkout.

This isn't a "fix", it's a change to the fundamental way that meta status labels work. They were built that way intentionally to allow people to have a little more nuance on "deployed", etc types of labels. The meta (deployable, etc) describes the state of the item itself, not the status of the item.

We would like the system to automatically change the status to "Deployed" as soon as an item is assigned to a user. This would remove the need for manual status updates and better reflect the actual state of the item.

In some workflows, people might not have a particular singular status to describe their deployed asset - they want additional status labels for that.
