Feature Request : Checkout Consumable to Asset
Dear Sir/Madam,
It will be great to link the consumable to the Assest so better tracking can be done .
Want to back this issue? Post a bounty on it! We accept bounties via Bountysource.
For that matter Accessories to asset also.. Keyboard and mouse associated with a PC. In the case of assembled PC, it can be Mother board,CPU etc..
how to link can u guide me on that
For Consumables - example could be Ink toner for the printer. if multiple printers are available i can track which printer is using the consumables.
For Accessories : While adding/checking out accessories, i will choose the associated Asset like we do with License. This will help to track the item as an single unit.
I like the consumables -> printer linking, that would make tracking usage much easier!
I'm also liking this idea. I originally thought this was the way to go but was mistaken.

Seconding this.
I would've loved to use the consumables section to manage printer toner purchases. Not being able to check consumables out to assets is a roadblock to that.
For consumables we don't find it very easy to use for our workplace inventory. The idea is great, but if we have like 100 studs en we give our students 10. Remaining is 90 but if we wanted to add a quantity then we have to add it to the 100. Why not update 90?
This would also be a nice addition. So we could checkout a toner to a certain printer (asset). So at the end of a year one could see how much toner has been used by a certain printer / department.
Thank you for your awesome work,
Faxe

Back off stalebot... We still want this!
Is this still relevant? We haven't heard from anyone in a bit. If so, please comment with any updates or additional detail. Yes my staley stalebot this is still relevant. ;)
Okay, it looks like this issue or feature request might still be important. We'll re-open it for now. Thank you for letting us know!
Of course is still relevant. ;)

This is the only feature keeping me from using Snipe-IT.
This is the only feature keeping me from using Snipe-IT !
I just don't use the consumables feature. I treat all printer cartridges as assets, and then assign them to printer assets. The consumables is very confusing and limited.
But Snipe-IT is too cool to not use it just for that. :)

Watch me. lol
I treat all printer cartridges as assets,
Yikes, sorry. This just shows how much we need this feature.
It really works very well for me. But it would be great to see this feature working.
Seems like this one is still going on and this would be a ideal feature since i want to keep track on the consumables. I could make a user for every printer but this can be done better.
+1 to bump the topic. Also, the ability to check back in consumables would be great in the event of a mistaken check out.
I would also like to add that I have been using Snipe-IT for a couple months now and love it for tracking assets. This would really complete the printer experience if I could checkout consumable ink cartridges to each printer. I don't know why it hasn't happened since I have seen the issue up since 2015. Seems like a high demand issue.
It's sad to me that this is still a thing!
If implemented, when a consumable is assigned to an asset and that asset is assigned to a user, the user should also be auto populated as the assigned user for the consumable.
I would like to Checkout consumables to Assets, It can be used in so many cases like checking out toner, batteries for equipment, etc.
It's sad to me that this is still a thing!
We welcome your pull request!
There's another complicating layer to this request. If any consumable can be assigned to an asset (and therefore consumed), that consumable has to be associated with one or more asset models in order to ensure an incorrect toner cartridge can't be assigned to the wrong printer, for example.
This functionality is currently built in to printmaster (which we've been using for a few years now) and wondering given this is also written in PHP and has a GNU General Public License if its code could be borrowed/incorporated to this end.

@snipe we're a hosted customer and we'd like to know if you have a plan to add this functionality in the near future.
Thanks for your answer.

I think consumables, accessories, and components should each be assignable to locations, assets, or users. This would create the biggest flexibility. We have use cases for all of the scenarios.

+1 This would be a great feature to implement if possible. Checking out consumables (toner) to the coppiers (assets), as well as less common things like checking out cat6 cable (by the foot) to a department.
+1, I was very disappointed today to find this is not how it works. This would make managing the toner to go with printers (or even asset models) so much easier.
Still wanted and still needed. so here's my +1
i would also love to see this implementation! for now you can assign it to the user managin this thing and then add hostname/printer name in the notes when you checkout toner...
I would also like that feature to be added. +1
keeping this up. +1 Printers eat cartridges!

still relevant!!!
Another +1 for this
+1 Cartridges and replacement laptop batteries are the 2 most often met cases for me.

for the people who are still looking for this feature.
iam trying to create my own solution.
iam rewritting the code of the cosumables.
so far i got this. Verbruiksartikel = Consumable Stks = quantity so now iam going to delete anything whats not relavant.
ill try to keep you updated
I still don't see the real advantage of 'consumables', as is implemented right now. I manage my printer cartridges as assets and I'm happy about it. Maybe because I have just 4 printers. But I probably still use them as assets if I had 20 anyway.
But I would like to see an improvement in the 'consumables' part.
Consumables don't burn a tag number and aren't expected to be returned. Also there's an expected 'in stock' amount that, when it falls below the configured threshold, fires an alert. Can't do that with assets.
Would still love to see this feature implemented....
me 2
I would really like to see this implemented as well. It would help out a lot with printers and toner.
same here! right now we can get by using a fake printer user 😃
I would do a fake printer user, however I want to be able to see which printers are using more toner than others, and track it. I have a fleet of around 25 printers so being able to see where more resources are being used is valuable, so that I can cut down on printing or also arrange for more preventive maintenance in a certain area. Again, this feature would really help in a production environment.
@snipe I understand the concern of making consumables assignable to assets, but in a manufacturing or production environment, there really isn't a "person" in charge of a certain area. Please, please, please incorporate this soon!! We would all benefit from it and appreciate it!

Any news on this? This is a must-have feature for consumables.
+1 - It seems like this is how this should work. Ideally, my users would be able to sign in and see what toner is available for them to check-out based on the printer they have.
Topic was written 5 years ago. Is any hope to implement that feature?
This feature would be awesome. I dont know why they couldnt implement it in 6 years :D Its really important!
Still relevant
Yes I think this is one of the few core features that snipeit is missing
+1 still relevant and, seems to me, still missing,
from 2015 to 2022 and you still haven't create checkout consumable to asset feature?
