Allow setting alternative avatar or transparency color for bluesky (unlikely)
I bridged my fedi account to bluesky, it filled transparency with white, either automatically or by jpeg-ing it.
Would be nice to either have an ability to upload an alternative version of the avatar or set the color which will replace transparency instead.
Fascinating request! I definitely get it.
I'm unlikely to start processing or hosting images in Bridgy Fed directly, but it's interesting to think about how users could specify an alternate avatar image.

Doesn't it upload fedi avatar to bluesky when creating the profile?
Could fill transparency at that step at least
There's no image download or upload. Bridgy Fed is its own PDS, it manages its own blobs, and it does that by using the original image URLs from your fediverse instance directly.
One of the bright lines we've drawn in Bridgy Fed so far is that we don't host any media. This significantly limits our risk, liability, and bandwidth costs. This feature would require us to change that, so it's unlikely at best.
Soon happy to keep open to track though.
Tentatively closing as will not fix. Sorry!
We don't do any kind of image processing or conversion, so the switch from transparent to white here was off-protocol, probably part of Bluesky's CDN image pipeline. We don't really have any visibility into that, so I'm reluctant to try to reverse engineer it and keep up with any changes they make to it over time. (More than that, I'm reluctant to add any image processing at all.)
