Reduce line jitter

It would be nice if the rendered text that wasn't edited between commits, somehow jittered less. This would make it easier to see what parts are getting modified. Although #3 might be enough.

One idea might be to force there to never be side padding. This would make the location of columns not move, unless the number of columns changed. This might make for a separate issue.
