Maybe a 64-bit version for Raspberry would be good?
Also what is wrong with .zip?
I have been intending to provide an aarch64 build compiled on Raspbian. In practice, this has not happened because I don't run such a machine regularly so builds would be impractical. I suppose cross-compiling might work but seems more of a hassle.

For distribution on Linux?
Yes, I think all platforms should stop with their system wide installer/updater systems (also read closed stores with 30% fees) because every app needs their own features to innovate also zip + self updating .jar with Java sandbox is the most practical, cross-platform and secure path.
