Showing highlighted text in elfeed-show-mode?

I use elfeed to track changes to hundreds of Wikipedia pages, in order to keep an encyclopedia I maintain updated. Unfortunately, the diffs are rendered in a way that doesn't preserve all the highlights in the original. Here is an example (search for e.g. 2021-07-09 ; I append screenshots for clarity).

I understand that elfeed-show-mode relies on Emacs' built-in shr package, but I can't figure out what exactly is causing this issue, or determine if there is a way to customize either elfeed or shr to make it show the text with the original highlights preserved.
