Feature request: In editor terminal

Open HKalbasi opened this issue 3 weeks ago • 3 comments

Really nice project! I very dislike modal editors, but I'm forced to use them since they are the only available editors in terminal and the vscode's remote ssh setup is not trivial on servers which may not even have internet access.

Having a builtin terminal inside the editor, similar to the vscode's terminal, would be great. You can even use it for rendering the output of lsp server errors and logs, similar to what vscode is doing. I had difficulty in setup and debugging my lsp server.

This project looks impressive and I was looking for terminal as well. For now I guess we have to figure out with tmux or something else.

Personally I use tmux, for other benefits as well, such as over SSH - not losing my session if there's a disconnection.

Built-in terminals have downsides (keys are handled differently than a normal terminal) but I can take a shot at it and see if it's useable.

What would you use it for?

vscode client is too expensive to do quick edit various config files and test them on smaller servers. This kind of editor is perfect for that. :D

I also strongly support this feature. It would be a game-changer for SSH workflows. Having a built-in terminal would allow me to edit files and run server commands simultaneously without leaving the editor, effectively making Fresh feel like a lightweight VS Code running directly on the server.
