MacOS Dark mode white on white

Open nodarkthings opened this issue 2 years ago • 14 comments

Despite the various updates, it still has graphic issues in dark mode (here on 10.14). If you set the view from light to Dark theme (or Follow System...), close the app, relaunch: text is white on white... :-( Capture d’écran 2022-08-24 à 11 40 37

Sorry, I can't replicate it. Did you try removing Caprine's preferences folder?

Thanks. I've tried uninstalling completely Caprine with AppCleaner (it removes in particular ~/Library/Application Support/Caprine), I can't seem to find any Caprine folder in ~/Library/Preferences or the usual folders such as /Containers or /Group Containers. I'm running MacOS 10.14.6 in Dark mode.

Unfortunately I don't have a Mac, but I suspect you might be using Messenger's new UI which we don't currently have access to.

I don't know anything about "Messenger's new UI", it's been like that since I updated to MacOS 10.14 (which last version dates from July 22, 2019... ;-) ), and prior to that I was running 10.9 where Caprine Dark theme was simply not working... It's very likely this bug is present for every recent version of MacOS, I guess. I'm sorry you can't fix that, I would have preferred staying with Caprine instead of Messenger. :-( Thanks for your efforts, anyway.

@nodarkthings what version of Caprine are you running?

dusansimic avatar Aug 24 '22 15:08 dusansimic

~~I'm having similar issue on Arch Linux with KDE. Theme setting doesn't persist, in fact I can check all three at once. But whatever I do it won't change from 'Light' theme. I tried removing ~/.config/Caprine to no avail.~~

~~Not sure if I should create a separate issue? Another issue is that upon launching Caprine the window doesn't show up. I have to click system tray icon and 'Toggle' for it to show.~~

~~I'm on 2.56.1~~

Never mind. I just saw that there was 2.56.1-2 available in the repo. Seems to be fixed there.

The last one, but it's been like this with all the former ones since last year at least — I was not intensely using Caprine before... My former message was erroneous as I was on 10.11 before switching to 10.14 (not 10.9) and I was using light mode.

I have the same issue on MacOS Monterey 12.5.1, latest version of Caprine.

A workaround that did the trick for me is to select View -> Theme -> Dark mode every time you open a new conversation. It fixes the white on white glitch temporarily.

I'm experiencing this same issue with Dark Mode and I'm on 2.56.1.

I doubt this will ever be fixed, nobody seems to work on that issue. :-(

nodarkthings avatar Oct 24 '22 21:10 nodarkthings

None of current app maintainers have access to an Apple computer so at the moment, we can't work on the issue. If anyone would like to contribute a fix, PRs are very welcome!

Unfortunately I'm not a dev, just a basic user — I even don't know what a PR is... Thanks for your answer, anyway. :-)

I’m a dev primarily on Mac! I’ll take a closer look and see if I can get together a PR

This is happening to me too. Workaround is to go to the View settings and just click the currently-checked-off theme again but I have to do it very frequently. 2.56.1 on macOS Monterey.
