Messages are not being marked as read

Received messages are not being marked as read either when reading them or right click, Mark as Read.

Reproducable - receive message, read it, right click, mark as read

I think it started after 2.52.4, but maybe was in 2.52.3 as well. Messages are not getting marked as read until switched to other chat and back. Though if I was on another chat and switch to it it's read, unlike some time ago when that didn't mark. Now it's like opposite. Messages in open chat are mark only after switching or writing a message. Though mark as read from chat list works for me.

This happens for me too from time to time but it seems to me that it's the problem in the Messenger website, it seems a little bit buggy. It would be good if you could check the website, if you get the same behavior, that means it's the problem in the website.

I've just checked and in the website it works normally.

I can confirm the problem. If messages aren't marked as read, sometimes helps if I click to another message and then back. But sometimes happens that even that trick doesn't work. UPDATE: And as maxoku said, if I try it on website or with FB's Messenger, everything are marked as read.

Thanks for the report. I've been experiencing this myself but I thought it's just the Messenger website being buggy (quite a lot of things on the website are buggy so it wouldn't be news). I'm not really sure what is causing it and it's quite hard to debug but I'll mark it as a bug.

Additional info - I just noticed that my Caprine has a notification. I click on it and I saw that one of my conversations are marked as unread. It was marked as read before!! It didn't help whatever I did. Click on it, click on the previous and back, close Caprine. Nothing worked. Then I opened a FB Messenger and the same conversation was also marked as unread. But when I clicked on it, it immediately becomes read and the same also in Caprine.

FWIW, this is still an issue on Windows 11 Pro 23H2. I think https://github.com/sindresorhus/caprine/issues/2090 is related, and shares a common cause of Caprine not fully understanding that the window is focused, or not communicating that to the web view.
