How did you end up in Thailand?

Just wondering how you ended up in Thailand for such a lengthy time. I presume it's because your girlfriend lives there as well, but how did the two of you meet?

(Full disclosure: I'm really interested in this since my girlfriend is Filipino and I spend a whole bunch of time over there. 😁)
