How did you learn design ?

In one of the questions, you state :

Why do you make logos for small modules? Some projects I’ve made logos for: AVA, XO, pageres, got, hasha, awesome, android-lint-summary, chalk, fkill, trash, brightness, build-time-tracker-plugin, imagemin, node-sass

I really like what you've done, especially for AVA.

As a developer, I am very interested in design, but have no idea how to start learning. Whenever I build a side-project or a package, I always wish I knew how to design a cool logo.

Do you have some advices ? How did you get started ?
