Simultaneous recording and video streaming

Hi, I am curious if it is possible to implement the possibility of recording the camera image to the device's memory while streaming. Is such functionality in the case of the raspberry pi 3 possible at all with its hardware resources? My guess is that it would require running a custom pieline in Gstreamer.
