Crop is inconsistent across platforms and views

There are two problems here: The first crop is incomprehensible, and they look totally different. Twitter has trouble generally with wide aspect ratio (often, text-heavy) images.

finally, the second view looks "good" on android but different in the browser (where they are identical, consistently cropped)
