canonical amount format seems to vary per file

rwp reports the display style for a commodity visibly varying from one file to another with the register command. Eg: a.j

2008-08-20
    (a)  $10,000.00

b.j

2009-11-12
    (a)  $1200.00

$ hledger -f a.j -f b.j register
2008/08/20                               (a)                             $10,000.00    $10,000.00
2009/11/12                               (a)                               $1200.00     $11200.00

It should be consistent. Regression ? Never noticed ?

It has been that way since at least 1.0.. but worked properly eg with 0.27
