Configure default file name

Open simon-knuth opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

This is an issue tracking the creation of a robust file naming solution as proposed in #66 and already mentioned in #21. It will include an intuitive configuration UI with numerous options.

I thought I'd chime in with my file naming, even though I suspect it will be entirely outside of the scope of this work.

Largely I'm scanning household bills or official documents to maintain a digital backup. I start each document name with a yyyy-mm-dd date, but this is the date on the document itself, not the date I scan it.

So here is where I suspect it would be entirely outside of the scope of this work: If you fancied having one option where you run the document through OCR and finding the first date-like text in the document and use that in the document name, I wouldn't mind! :-)

It's definitely outside of the original scope, but I'm kinda intrigued. I already considered a similar approach in the vein of note-taking apps and Microsoft Word, where the first few words in a document are used to set the initial document name instead of having to fall back on some generic "New Document" string. It's usually not perfect, but for users that notoriously fail to name files right away, it's pretty helpful when trying to make sense of the files later.

Not making any promises, but if I get this new system done fast enough, I'll take a look and also keep your specific scenario in mind to perhaps cook something up for you.

This is included in the v3.2 release. You can access the new editor from the "File naming" section in the settings.
