GCC 8 and 9 fail on AArch64 (7, 10 and 11 are fine)
This appears to be an issue with GCC 8 and 9. I have built with Clang 10 on the same machine without issue, and with GCC 7, 10 and 11.
These are the unique build errors I see:
../test/arm/neon/../../../simde/arm/neon/ld1.h:429:12: error: incompatible types when returning type ‘int’ but ‘simde_uint8x16x4_t’ {aka ‘struct uint8x16x4_t’} was expected
../test/arm/neon/../../../simde/arm/neon/ld1.h:429:12: error: ‘vld1q_u8_x4’ was not declared in this scope; did you mean ‘vld1q_u8_x2’?
I encountered these doing this:
meson setup build && CC=gcc-$v CXX=g++-$v ninja -C build -v
for v in 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.
