Unfortunately, the link you provided in the README is no longer accessible from my location. Could you provide more information on the hardware sound meter you're using?

I have doubts about which is the best hardware to operate outdoors permanently. Ideally, it would be an ESP32 option that communicates standalone via WiFi. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Hi there, I investigated the following options :

my own volume meter is put in such a box :

in the box, there is a raspberry pi I had on a shelf, a wesnn volume meter (the one I've added to the github page), and a usb/PoE splitter you can find for a few bucks on aliexpress.

It is powered using PoE, and therefore I do not need wifi. Of course, up to you to make use of wifi ! but you'll need to power the devices using a power supply then.

I can tell you that using a regular power supply for my rpi also did power the volume meter through USB. no problem with that.

So one power adapter would be enough.

As far as I know, there is no ESP capable to run python and there are very limited usb enabled options. But if you find some solution, please share it here !!! :)

@silkyclouds 1/ Awesome project

2/ did you cut a hole in the box so that it can properly capture sound? Or is it just inverted so the box is protecting from above?

3/ I'm working on a esp32 based decibel meter. Would love to share details in the coming weeks!

1/ thanks

2/ I drilled a hole, yes. joins us on the discord and I'll show you how it looks like ;)

3/ Thats great to read, I really would like to figure out ways to use even cheaper sound meters (Eg: Wemos mini + a properly calibrated I2S mic). so PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU SUCCEED ! :D
