UX: Stickerpack order frequently messed up and can't be fixed

Open Fuchs opened this issue 9 months ago • 3 comments

Using a supported version?

  • [x] I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
  • [x] I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Overall summary

The order of sticker packs in Signal Desktop occasionally gets messed up (usually when you boot up a machine with signal that you haven't used in a while and installed / removed stickerpacks on other machines since). There is no way to re-order the packs in Desktop, so it stays that way until you uninstall all of them and re-install them in the order you want.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Have sticker packs in a preferred order
  2. Use signal for a while across multiple devices

Expected result

Sticker packs stay in the order you have them in, are at very least synchronized with the main device or at least re-orderable on desktop

Actual result

Sticker pack order is completely messed up, there is no way to re-order either

Thank you for this report! We recently fixed an issue in that area. Could you update all your linked Signal Deskto pinstances to 7.43.0 and see if you can still reproduce the issue? If yes - a debug log would be appreciated!

Hi, thanks a lot for the reply. As I wrote, it's unfortunately a bit finnicky to reproduce, but I shall update and see if it happens again. If it does, I'll gladly provide the debug log. If it is fixed, I'd of course still very much enjoy either a synced order or, even better, the possibility to order them on desktop as well (which would also be feature parity with mobile), but that's probably more of a feature request then.

Okay, I sort of was able to do a test today, by installing signal on a fresh windows install. While it did not modify the order of the Linux installation on the same box yet (good) the order I got on Windows is exactly reversed to the order I've got everywhere else (not good).

Attached are the logs of the windows install (Wrong order) and the Linux install (same order as everywhere else)

As said, preferably they would be synced with the main device, but I'd be perfectly happy if I could manually fix the order on desktop signal.

debuglog-win.txt (wrong order) debuglog-lin.txt (correct order)

I just recently updated one of my stickerpacks, and yeah, the order on the signal client that wasn't running at that point was again completely messed up.

Please, for the love of god, just give us the possibility to re-order the stickers on the desktop client. The order is broken and stays broken, no matter how you try to fix it, so just give us the possibility to manually override that, as we already can on mobile.
