Signal is misbehaving in weird ways
Using a supported version?
- [X] I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
- [X] I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.
Overall summary
Signal desktop (7.4.0 from a Debian package) stopped showing new messages, doesn't show delivery notifications (yet I verified with another user that messages are delivered), and displays This person isn't using Signal in the Note to Self conversation. Signal Android (7.2.4) also says Send failed, tap for unsecured fallback (yet I verified with another user that messages are delivered).
Steps to reproduce
- Open Note to Self
Expected result
Can type a note to myself.
Actual result
Observe the This person isn't using Signal message.

Hi @liori, sorry for these difficulties. It looks like your account has ended up in a pretty unusual state, starting around 2024-04-02. We're checking with our teams internally to try to identify the cause.
@liori Can you email [email protected] and include a link to this github issue? We'll need to ask some follow-up questions to try to figure out how your account got into this state. Thank you!
I am having an unusual issue where messages I've sending from the desktop client are visible on other desktop clients but are not visible on the phone or to the recipient.
It appears to just be the case with large messages. (in this case, a zoom invite).
@digital-shokunin can you share debug logs and the sent timestamp (via "Info" in the menu next to the message) of the message not showing up on other devices? And can you say more about the message (character count, does it have a link preview, etc.)?
The issue seems to have resolved itself after updates to my phone and desktop clients.
Unfortunately, I was too busy to try and figure out how to collect the debug logs from all my devices.
We believe that the original issue, resulting in "This person isn't using Signal" notifications, is fixed. I'm going to close this.
