"Verification Failed, Please Retry Later" and messaging blocked.
Ubuntu 20.04 Signal Desktop 5.50.1, production (During the process below, upgraded to 5.51.0, production.)
On trying to message a group, and having comleted a capcha, I'm back to Signal with the response, "Verification Failed, Please Retry Later."
That request for verification, leading to a loop that I had to cancel out ("Skip Verification"), appeared to be triggered by this message which, going by the checkmarks, was nevertheless sent:

Now I'm trying to send another message to the same group. This one is not sent. I get a spinner that doesn't resolve. "Info" for the message has everyone on the list under "Pending."

As a side note, prior to the capcha whose "Verificaton Failed," I responded to a text by someone with whom I have communicated before. This person was asking me to add them to a group I administer, and I responded that I would. (My response: Sent Yesterday 11:05 PM (1658383526257)). I then added them to the group. This activity triggered capchas, even though we are clearly in communication. This seemed odd to me. Is it really what you want?

Back to the issue at hand.
32 minutes now No luck with that message being sent. During this time, I have been able to text with an individual with whom I initiated first-time contact before the failed verification (Sent Yesterday 11:28 PM (1658384881163)) and who subsequently responded to me.
As I urgently need to send out more group messages, I'm going to shut down Signal and restart, hoping that will trigger another capcha whose completion Signal will recognize, and that will allow me to begin messaging again.
On shutting down Signal, I noticed there was an upgrade. I'm doing that before the restart: "5.51.0 production." On restart, it's asking me to "verify to continue messaging." I do that and return to Signal to be met with "Verification Failed, Please Retry Later." I have to cancel out and "Skip Verification."
50 minutes. That message is still "Pending."
115 minutes.
Two other people have posted intervening messages to this group, thus interfering with the message sequence. New log.
145 minutes.
In the interum, I sent a message to see if I could initiate communication with one of my "Unknown" contacts. I got a request for a capcha that also resolved in a "Verification Failed, Please Retry Later." So I had to cancel out of that. The test message to "Unknown" is also permanently on "Pending." New log.
165 minutes. I am going to restart Signal again and try for another capcha to see if I can continue work... No luck. After passing google, "Verification Failed, Please Retry Later." This time I'm not cancelling the window and skipping verification. I'll just try occasionally to see if I get through.
185 minutes. "Verification Failed, Please Retry later."
280 minutes. "Verification Failed, Please Retry later."
I gather I'm locked out. How long does this last? If I get blocked from sending messages, this really hobbles my organizing work. In the past I've found myself having to shut down my machine, only to discover that messages don't go until the next day or sometimes not at all.
You just can't lock people out from their communication system like this. Being able to communicate is too critical!
404 minutes. Success - I gather that must have been for 6 hours.
442 minutes. I appear to be locked out again after only sending one message to one group, and one to an individual. Then, I tried two tests. I initiated contact to one individual who is a member of one of my groups but who appears without a phone number. I also retried sending the test message to the "Unknown" contact (mentioned above), which had been coming up as "Send failed." Log.
I cancelled out verification and was able to send to a long-time contact. I daren't try sending to a group.
@indutny-signal - Thanks. Here is my iOS log. As a reminder, that's an iPhone SE (gen.1), running Signal 5.44.0.10, on iOS 15.5. So you have the same time-point, here is the Desktop log.
I am about to need to send out a blast annoucement to a number of groups. I will send you a second pair of logs after I get locked up, as I expect. Let's see ... Ok, sent to only one of the groups (76 members), and immediatley I get directed to a capcha, and then "Verification Failed." I've cancelled out. Desktop log, iOS log
I've forwarded it to two individuals with whom I have had communications before, and it worked... a large group and it worked! ... a second group and it's asking me to fill out a capcha again. I am in a capcha loop that I have to cancel out of again, but that message also went... two one-off messages to groups, and then forwarded the blast again ... I'm not getting locked out with "Paused" messages this time. :? I might as well give you logs: Desktop, iOS.
Ok, here it is. After forwarding to maybe two more groups and one or two other small messages, I initiated contact with a new phone# (not in my contact list). When forced to cancel verificaiton, that message is now not "Paused," but "Pending." (Sent Today 2:58 PM (1658440736405)). Logs: Desktop, iOS. Now two messages to one of my groups are completely jammed. I'm guessing it will be 6 hours again. These Messages are also "Pending":

Interesting. I just sent to another small group of 15 members, and that message went fine. (Sent Today 3:34 PM (1658442860096)) Logs: Desktop, iOS.
This might also be useful? The two messages stuck on "Pending" are in a group where trouble initiated in the OP here. Those Pending messages have not showed up on my iPhone, and I have to shut my laptop now. I'll try to report back when I can open it again, but it may not be until Sun/Mon.
The two messages mentioned in the last post above (Sent Today 3:20 PM (1658442056261) and Sent Today 3:23 PM (1658442209827).) finally went today when I opened up my laptop.
Gernally, it's acting fine today, but there is something about this one specific group.... No messages are being blocked, but one message to that one group mentioned at the end of the last post, is stuck on the spinner. That's the same group that gave me troubles with those two messages in the last paragraph. When I check "Info" for the messsage, I see: "Delivered to" (long list), "Sent to" (long list), "Sending to" (one group member), "Skipped" (3 group members, only one of which is blocked, one of which is in my contacs, and the last is some other group member that I don't know). That message was sent from the iPhone and has not appeared on my laptop yet.
Today I texted via my iPhone. So far, there have been no blocks on sending to groups, and only two captchas early on, but oddly, two messages to groups are stuck on the spinner. Info on those messages says, “Sending to,” and the list of group members. iOS log
After half an hour I deleted and resent one of them, but no luck. It’s the same. Oddly, I can post to other groups.
Some time later, those messages went. So it appears there was some sort of timeout specific to those groups.
Sorry for the wait. Could you search for the following contacts in the left pane, please, and see if any of them are Unknown Contacts by any chance?

Do you happen to know how these were added to the group? Is there any chance that some of them are no longer registered with Signal or maybe blocked the group?

That group (!groupIdEndsWith:orU=) is relatively new and I am one of 4 admins.
Searching this following contact returns two results, one which I have communicated with on a 1-1 basis, and the other "Unknown." Neither are showing any groups in common with me:

No worries. Thanks for getting back to me with this! Just a quick follow up question, does any of these contacts have anything to do with that group where you are one of 4 admins? I can see that captcha is getting triggered when you try to send to them so I'm trying to understand what the history of these contacts is in the group... For example, could it be that they blocked you as a sender?

This is the relevant message, triggering the capcha that, despite being filled correctly, is not recognized by Signal:

Of course I wanted to send a few Easter greetings today (31 March 2024 at about 10AM CET). So, I wrote a message with desktop app (Linux), wanted to send it to 5 contacts (max. amount that Signal allows), Signal wanted SPAM verification on that funny website where one has to click funny pictures, this failed again and again (i.e. Signal sent me to that funny website again and again) and in the meantime all actually sent messages were paused.
To stop this crap I unregistered desktop app, deleted everything on my phone, deleted also my account and registered it again from scratch.
But, messages are still paused when I want to send anything. It only works if a contact writes to me first. If not, I see a nice circle that circles and the hint “Send paused”. (On my Android app atm since I have not linked desktop app again, yet.)
Thank you, Signal! Now, does anybody know how long it takes until messages are not being paused anymore? Thanks in advance for any help - this is annoying!
EDIT: I linked desktop app again. It still wants verfication on signalcaptchas.org and this still constantly fails. Btw: Android app does NOT want a verification. It simply shows “Send paused”. EDIT 2: No change with VPN off. EDIT 3: 9 hours later nothing has changed.
