:-p means "Sticking Tongue Out" not one-piece bathing suit
On signal desktop when I type :-p it gives me a one-piece bathing suit, I expect a sticking tongue out emoji
Thanks for reporting. I've filed this.
Can confirm that this is incredibly annoying; it came with the emoji picker recently. The only workaround I've found is to add a space after the P (if you end a message with “:-P” and press enter to send it, without a space first, simply nothing happens).
Would be fixed by PR: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/pull/4942
I have a similar issue and I'm not sure if this is a related issue. Signal Desktop drove me crazy when searching for flags!
I wanted to write a french and italian flag. Naturally I typed :flag-it or flag-fr. But the autocompletion proposal is completely off the tracks and does not show even the direct hit. From a UX I came to the conclusion that this flag does not exist. But actually :flag-fr: (note the subsequent colon) is a 100% match and actually does resolve to the french flag, though the autocompletion does not display at it all.
I assume this is again the effect due to the hypen - character. So is this the same issue or should I file another bug?

@bentolor the issue you're looking for is https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/4235
The reporter has disappeared without indicating any affected version. Can anyone do that?
Ticket #3517 tracks a similar issue.
@Chealer I can confirm that Signal Desktop 7.44.0 no longer seems to affected by this.
Actually the behaviour seems to have change, that typing : does not immediately trigger the completion popup which caused the effect. I'm not sure which version fixed this.
Thank you @bentolor No one seems able to indicate any affected version, and the reporter has disappeared. Can someone mark this issue as resolved, or mark the ticket as incomplete?
