Looks like a permission issue, no idea why Error: EPERM: operation not permitted, rename 'C:\Users\robert_g\AppData\Roaming\Signal\logs\log.log.1' -> 'C:\Users\robert_g\AppData\Roaming\Signal\logs\log.log.2'

Can you tell us about the permissions setup on your computer? Have you made any interesting changes?

Nothing out of the ordinary.

Same issue on ubuntu 19.10. Leave signal running over many days (including hibernation overnight) and this message eventually pops up. Can be resolved by exiting and restarting app.

Unhandled Error

Error: EACCES: permission denied, rename '/home/jape/snap/signal-desktop/298/.config/Signal/logs/log.log.1' -> '/home/jape/snap/signal-desktop/298/.config/Signal/logs/log.log.2'

Same thing here, error happens after days of running:

Unhandled Error

Error: EACCES: permission denied, rename '/home/maxou/snap/signal-desktop/325/.config/Signal/logs/log.log.1' -> '/home/maxou/snap/signal-desktop/325/.config/Signal/logs/log.log.2'

@max-l any chance we can get your debug logs see if they shed some light on this issue? You can find them off the menu View -> Debug Logs. You may want to try restarting the app as a previous user has mentioned this resolves the issue.

Wow that must have been quite a while ago. I think the app has been upgraded many times since that problem. Great desktop app. Thank you for working on it.

Hey guys, was wondering if I could get some help regarding this issue (signal on desktop)

Unhandled Promise Rejection Error: EPERM: operation not permitted, unlink 'C:\Users\MTWN73\AppData\Roaming\Signal\logs\log.log

I have tried uninstalling and removing signal and whisper systems from my windows registry, now I cant even reinstall it (didnt even get a debug log :X). Any thoughts?

@vallejo915 what happens when you try to install it? Are you able to pull logs from your machine about the installation?

Hey man, thanks for the reply. It finally installed but it gives me the error I listed above after installation. The thing is that I'm not able to run it, it just gives me the error and doesnt allow me to get a Debug Log.

vallejo915 avatar Jul 24 '20 18:07 vallejo915

Not looking for a debug log but maybe system logs can tell us why the install is failing?

PLEASE REMOVE github@brillouinenergy FROM THIS LIST!

@regsoft This is not a list. It's a bug on GitHub. You need to come to this URL on GitHub, and click the 'Unsubscribe' button. Or turn off GitHub email notifications entirely for your account.

Just got this randomly after closing Signal. Never seen it before. Prevents Signal opening completely.

Unhandled Promise Rejection

Error: EPERM: operation not permitted, unlink 'C:\Users\samuel-lucas6\AppData\Roaming\Signal\logs\main.log.3'

Signing out of Windows fortunately fixed the problem.

Meteor0id avatar Feb 20 '24 05:02 Meteor0id

@Meteor0id Do you have a debuglog? If you inspect the file permissions using Get-Acl on Windows can you show the results?

jamiebuilds-signal avatar Feb 22 '24 05:02 jamiebuilds-signal

Looks like this appears if you are low on space

honsa avatar May 01 '24 07:05 honsa

In my case this error was caused by a background Signal process which was not visible in either the taskbar or the notification tray.
