Sessions not saving in Chrome

Open sreymond opened this issue 9 months ago • 2 comments

Short description

The Chrome browser has crashed or been closed multiple times in the past few weeks and months, but the last session saved in the Tab Session Manager is from January. Mostly I've just used Chrome's "restore previous windows" option, but that failed yesterday, so I went to check saved sessions and realized nothing had saved (on browser exist or otherwise) for a couple months.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Set session manager to an upper limit of a few hundred sessions for browser exited and window closed (I have used this option successfully in Firefox)
  2. Browser with tab session manager crashes
  3. Reopen browser
  4. Click tab session manager to see sessions, waiting to make sure all are loaded

Expected result

All previous browser sessions appear in the appropriate category (user save, save on browser exit, etc)

Actual result

The last session saved was from JANUARY. Everything after late January is still missing despite multiple browser closings that should have saved.

Platform information

  • Platform (OS): Windows
  • Version of browser: Version 134.0.6998.178
  • Version of Tab Session Manager: 7.1.0

Additional context

Initially only 60 saved sessions existed, but following the advice here https://github.com/sienori/Tab-Session-Manager/issues/1404 to remove the null session restored more earlier sessions (139 sessions saved total now) but nothing more recent (which is what I actually need) has restored. After trying the above step, my first attempts to import the saved session (with the null removed) seemed to silently fail. I uninstalled and reinstalled the extension and tried importing again, which worked but did nothing to resolve my missing recent data.

For me lately not only it didn't save any more sessions, but it also lost all the previous sessions.

I dunno what I did, but I fixed it.

  • I read your message and got the idea to go check the extension logs.
  • I opened "Manage Extensions" (this on Edge browser) and selected TabSessionManager
  • because I'm easily distracted I noticed the "Collect Errors" checkbox and I said "why not, maybe it show more details".
  • I clicked on "Inspect views service worker;" and opened the JS console (with CTRL+SHIFT+I)
  • No error there, neither on the background.js nor on the main console or on the service-worker console. All regular info/warnings but no errors.
  • I tried to click on the TSM icon to go check stuff there....... and magically it loaded all the lost sessions as usual!!

BTW, I can see that the installed version is 7.1.0 (for Chrome/V8 browsers; while Firefox should have 7.1.1).
