Sessions browser start auto-backup system stopped working
Short description
As today its not making auto-backups anymore.
Steps to reproduce
- Start browser
- Use it normal..
Expected result
Its supposed to bring a pop-up window asking me where to save the backup file every time the browser starts.
Actual result
Pop-up window didnt happen anymore, so no more backup files saved to my hard disc.
It worked fine until today.. or, let say, maybe, until what i explained below happened.

It happened at same time i started the browser and all sessions got lost... luckily i restored em' by the backup files i saved before.. -well... "i think" i did.. it did not restore the sessions when i clicked the "import" button.. but after i re-opened the browser, so i don't know if importing my saved file really worked or not or if TSM just found again all the supposedly lost sessions somewhere else...-
In fact this is the 2nd time all my sessions got lost... for that, after the first time, i started using the two backups system, the one at browser start and the Google sync one. This is starting to be kinda UNRELIABLE, if im being honest... :/
This happened to me as well, starting December 12, 2024. Strangely, it still worked in Firefox on another computer I use. So I checked the preferences and the about:config settings. On the Mac machine that did NOT save tab sessions, I had selected "increased protection" under the setting "Enable DNS over HTTPS using:", while on the Windows machine that DID save tab sessions, I had selected "Default protection". Still testing to see if that's what's causing the issue, but it's a clue. Unfortunately, the developer of Tab Session Manager may have stopped updating it. Strangely enough, the extension version is 7.0.1 on both machines, but on the Windows machine it reports "last updated June 12, 2024" while on the Mac machine it reports "last updated January 7, 2025".
Ok.. "magically" now it started working again. Started browser and the backup file saving popup came out.
This extension turned to be so unreliable right now.. and i need it for real work. Thats not good.-
I have this issue occasionally but a restart of the browser fixes it so clearly something is broken somewhere.
OK i think i fixed it: seems was a problem on my end.
Reinstalled Chrome and all extensions i use and thats it, now its working. (only backuped my chrome settings files, my bookmarks files and my history files).
After that, seems it autorecovered all my sessions from online sync backup.
Ok.. started to happen again... :/ And the browser getting really slow to start too.
Then i guess i fixed it by deleting all the contents of "Sync Data" on User Data/Default of Chrome. And keep the google chrome synchronization disabled (i think it messes all when activated).
