Soften Normals Node improvements

Open mifth opened this issue 6 years ago • 5 comments

Hello! I transfer meshes sometimes between Max and Houdini. And I use Soften Normals node for Houdini and TexTools for Max. Hard Edges are created from UVs. And I have found that TextTools does not make a hard edge at Cylinder. But GDTools make it. ( Could you, please, check it?

Hi I'm not sure I follow the question. You dont want to harden the edges on the seams?

Hi, yes. The hard edge will be not good for normals baking and shading. The hard edge which i selected at the last screenshot. But the Textools plugin does not make the hard edge as you can see at the first screenshot.

How do you make the distinction between those edges? based on the normal angle as well as the uv shell?

If an edge has no splits then it should be smooth. I think something like this
