Two way databinding broke?

First, I'd like to mention that the docs don't seem to mention what unit countdown= accepts.

Second, I've had 0 luck binding anything to countdown= ........

<timer countdown="vm.countdown" interval="1000"></timer>

vm.countdown = 160000 in the controller and yet I get NaN.
