Please, update Winlogo for Windows 11
Hi @shsh999
I have found some logos that I want to use to replace the Start Menu logo on the taskbar. I know your app is only for Windows 10, but I decided to try it on Windows 11 because I have upgraded to this new OS since it came out, but Winlogo is not working on Windows 11 and I have never tried it on Windows 10 because I recently found this repository and it caught my attention.
I would like you to update Winlogo so that it can work with Windows 11, I am googling a lot about how to replace the start menu logo in Windows 11 but so far I have not found something convincing.
By the way, I am also looking on the internet on how to create bmp files with transparency. Can you tell me what program you use to create transparent bmp files? How do you add transparency to a bmp file?
Hi @Dhyfer1 Sadly, Microsoft completely changed the implementation of the taskbar in Windows 11, so my current implementation won't work, and I'll need to find a new way to replace the logo. Since this is a hobby project of mine, I don't really know when I'll find the time to do the research & development required for this. It is somewhere in my TODO list, but won't happen soon.
Regarding the bmp files, I use C# to convert the images (in practice, I think that they are not actually transparent, just have a black background). I don't know any standalone software that does it, but I've never searched for one.
It's a shame to hear that. I hope you can find a way so that Winlogo can work with Windows 11, and that your repository is not archived. I have heard that the taskbar it will have changes next year, for now not much can be done with it.
By the way, do you have any idea what dll or exe file or in which directory the Windows logo of the taskbar can be found?
In windows 10, it can be found as a resource at: C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\aero.msstyles Don't know about windows 11, though

Hi. In Windows 11 the path is the same as Windows 10. Did you use any software to edit this type of msstyles files?
You can view it with both resource hacker and masstyles editor, if I remember correctly. However, I'm pretty sure the file is digitally signed by microsoft, so you can't just edit it and change the logo...
Ok. That file you are talking about is the only file that contains the logo of the start menu? Isn't it somewhere else, in some dll, exe or other file type?
That's where (windows 10) explorer takes it from, I don't know any other file.
Oh. It's okay. Thanks for the information, now I will get to figure out how to edit those files, and I hope you can have time to continue working with WinLogo and that can work with Win11. Thank you.
