Improve search engine ranking.

Open vvasuki opened this issue 7 years ago • 6 comments

Excessive humbleness with "this is all very raw" apart, this is the best sanskrit metre recognizer out there as it is. But its web ranking and discoverability are poor (seen anecdotally with friends as well as image ).

A lot of people will benefit if search engine ranking is made better.

Contrast with searching for "sanskrit metre appspot" - that gets one to the website quickly.

For sure.

All one needs is direct anchor backlinks. What keywords you want to rank for?

That's part of what one needs, shreevatsa should also probably add some keywords to his page. "sanskrit metre recognizer" is the search string I tried above.

Thanks for this feedback. I will add the string "Sanskrit metre recognizer" to the main page.

Excessive humbleness with "this is all very raw"

Well, when I wrote it at the time, I intended to signify the gap between its existing state and my plan of what it could be. Perhaps it's not humbleness but a kind of boasting, claiming to have grand plans without doing the work :P But unfinished plans is the story of my life…

I hope to devote a little time to this finally over some time in the upcoming holiday breaks (assuming I don't get distracted by other things), fixing some of the more glaring bugs, limitations and usability issues… at least getting started with it.

In that light:

could you both say what are the most important features (what is the most useful thing currently), and what needs the most improvement?

Batch is all I want, so I can collect as many stats as possible and see possible errors and deviations in texts. So simple meters should be recognized without issues, including all shloka variations.

The ability to identify and highlight metrical mistakes, for a wide variety of metres, while using many input scripts

and what needs the most improvement?

  • I want to input a big set of verses I composed (separated by empty lines) and seek errors in any of them, rather than having to input one at a time.
  • Richer info about metres identified - yati-s, chanting styles, lakShaNa-s with source..
