Sound effects sound closer to "Low Res" versions when compared to normal engine

As per the title. the sound effects that are being used in the menus, and to an extent in the cutscenes as well, sounds a bit closer to the "Low-Res" versions of the sounds, at least within windows. I have attached a video that compares the sound in the current release, and in the old engine.

I am using the phrase "Low Res" as that is an install option in the original CD release of the game. It's also the default way things sound within Mysteries of the Sith, which shipped without any actually hi-res sounds.

This issue is still present as of v0.8.7. Steam version. I tested both with Steam files and CD version files with the same result.

thermloop01.wav and thrmlpu2.wav (the menu hover and select sounds used in the comparison video) in Res1hi.gob sound just fine outside the game when played with other software. I also suspect sounds in the game are just fine as well and it happens only on menus, but I don't know.

I tried the TODOA menu hover and menu select options with similar results. thermloop01.wav sounds similar to its original but thrmlpu2.wav has more salient differences, mostly it sounds like bass is added to it like a bass booster mechanic. There could be a number of possibilities--some sort of audio spatialization filter, resampling poorly, or creating a device with a wrong sample rate, or whatever
