I cant login to github in github desktop on ubuntu

The problem

There seems to be an endless loop between the Sign in button, the browser opening and telling me to authorize, but when I do, all it does is go back to Github Desktop and the same Sign In button appears.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

1. Open the app
2. Sign in
3. Create a new repository with files in it
4. Publish the repository
