Future: Data East "Retro Classix" collection

Open Feilakas opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

There are a total of 12 Data East games currently for sale on GOG and Steam plus one more "coming soon".

The ROM files are in a zip inside a subfolder in the form "Retro Classix NameOfGame_Data\StreamingAssets". Taking Express Raider* as an example: Retro Classix Express Raider\Retro Classix Express Raider_Data\StreamingAssets\exprraid.zip

The zips contain all the necessary files and MOST are CRC-correct** but their names are non-standard. As such, for most games a rename operation of the files inside the zip an a rename of the zip file itself will result in perfectly standard ROM files.

  • Retro Classix: Bad Dudes -> baddudes.zip

  • Retro Classix: BreakThru - N/A

  • Retro Classix: Express Raider -> exprraidu.zip Express Raider Bonus Game -> shootout.zip

  • Retro Classix: Gate of Doom -> gatedoom.zip (CRC-failing "gb_00.h12" and "gb_05.j14")

  • Retro Classix: Heavy Barrel - N/A

  • Retro Classix: Joe & Mac - Caveman Ninja -> cninja.zip

  • Retro Classix: Joe & Mac Returns -> joemacr.zip

  • Retro Classix: Night Slashers -> nslasher.zip

  • Retro Classix: SRD - Super Real Darwin - N/A

  • Retro Classix: Super BurgerTime - N/A

  • Retro Classix: Two Crude -> twocrudea.zip

  • Retro Classix: Wizard Fire -> wizdfireu.zip (CRC-failing "mas10")

  • For some reason, Express Raider ALSO includes the game "Shootout" which can also be found in the same folder. Retro Classix Express Raider\Retro Classix Express Raider_Data\StreamingAssets\shootout.zip

** The following games have non-standard files. Both appear to work correctly under current MAME but FBNeo refuses to launch them.

  • Gate of Doom: For some reason the files "gb_00.h12" and "gb_05.j14" are from "Dark Seal", the European version of the game.
  • Wizard Fire: The file "mas10" is only 512KB instead of 1024KB but appears to have valid data inside.

Steam has the game "Retro Classix: Fighter's History" as "coming soon".

I would like to add that if you pick up a "My Arcade Data East Classics Mini Player" you can get all of these games plus more. Watch this video for how to extract the roms:
