Add default configuration file

would be nice to have a configuration file to allow one to specify defaults to use when not specified from commandline.

(alternately, an environment variable)

I'd be open for adding dedicated environment variables for some settings. Which settings do you have in mind?

Hi, the --panels <N> setting for me, the 2 panels default is too short. Why not set auto by default? Tia.
