A frequent user request, most recently from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAbBlOTnVLQ&lc=Ugz61KLXX3UqLth7vuZ4AaABAg:
I only recently stumbled upon Metro Map Maker but it is absolutely amazing! As someone who wants to use this for suggesting and promoting real transit expansions, being able to "accurately" draw the existing terrain, parks, highways, and water bodies is pretty important. So, my wish list items would be:
- a button that, when turned on, overlays the Map Maker grid on top of Google Maps or Bing Maps (or some other open-source satellite imagery).
- We'd then be able to zoom in to our city of choice, pick a scale we want to use for the map grid, lock that scale in place, and then begin drawing in the background map to match or approximate the real-world topography and features.
- This would also make it a lot easier to re-create existing transit lines and station locations.
Probably metrodreamin does this much better than MMM will be able to do; MMM is purpose-built for making diagrams most useful when navigating the system you're already in; metrodreamin is purpose-built for overlaying onto Google maps and building stations.
