Notarization Missing
Description
The binaries distributed through this repo’s releases lack notarization tickets, which makes it hard for an average user to install and launch the app as it’s blocked by macOS.
To Reproduce
- Download a
.dmg
file from releases (tested with v1.10.0); - Open the disk image;
- Copy the
.app
bundle to/Applications/
; - Launch the app from the applications folder.
Expected Behavior
A warning appears during the first launch of the app. This warning has the Open option (example).
Actual Behavior
A different warning appears (see the screenshot below), offering no option to open the app. To launch it anyway, the user has to perform one of the tricks: right-clicking the app and selecting Open with the Option key pressed, or going to System Settings and allowing the app from there.
According to Apple, this warning appears in the following scenario:
If you see this warning, it means that the app was not notarized, and Apple could not scan the app for known malicious software. You may want to look for an updated version of the app in the App Store or look for an alternative app.
