Pending timer queries are never dropped outside of the demo app

I noticed that renderer.pending_timers never gets cleared unless the stats gathering pass implemented only by the demo app is run. Are these timers intended to be part of "real" apps, or is this just temporary code to facilitate the demo? If it's the latter, then ignore this issue.
